THIS EVENT IS FREE
John O’Neil from California will join us in an IFAL in Conversation event on 8 December, 2021 at 9am PST/16:00 BST to discuss how gratitude, throughout our lives and in these difficult times, can play a healing role and move us on to a greater appreciation of those who have helped us and continue to do so.
As we know, the expression of gratitude is a fundamental aspect of Action Learning, especially as practiced in Action Learning sets. He is also very much aligned to the philosophy and principles espoused by Reg Revans and other pioneers of Action Learning.
O’Neil is the author of several influential books such as The Paradox of Success: When Winning at Work Means Losing at Life, Grace, and Leaderships Aikido. He’ll be discussing his new book Life: The Whole Enchilada: A Gratitude Memoir in which he takes us along on an inspiring learning journey. O’Neil introduces us to the many teachers, mentors, “character shapers”, and “wisdom carriers” who have influenced him, through his personal encounters with them. Among these were Eleanor Roosevelt, Abraham Maslow, Jonas Salk, and Nelson Mandela. He helped Mandela spread a culture of innovation and learning across the new government of South Africa. O’Neil has also provided counsel for many others, including the late Anita Roddick, and Andy Grove -- and continues to do so for a new generation of leaders throughout the world.
In the book, O’Neil suggests what might be learned by adopting his curiosity-driven approach to life, beginning with, “Magic is everywhere for the asking and miracles abound, especially in nature. Keep looking, asking, and honoring everyone who teaches you.” He also encourages readers to examine their own lives, offering ways to help them capture their own accumulated experiences and wisdom and provides a guide on how to write their own “gratitude memoir”.
